Bearcats Barely Lose to No. 17 in Nation
WHEATON, IL — The Willamette University women’s soccer team lost a second straight heart-breaking game to a nationally ranked team as they fell 1-0 to No. 17 Depauw Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats return home for a Sunday night game at 7 p.m. against College of St. Benedict.
The game will be played at Sparks Field on its new artificial surface under the lights.
A day after losing to the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Wheaton, 3-2 in 2 OT, the Bearcats allowed a first half goal by Tory Pavlovich on a shot that deflected off goalie Kari Woody.
The teams played even throughout. Depauw, ranked 17th in the nation coming into the game, out-shot the Bearcats 12-11. Brooke Shipley recorded four saves for the shutout. Woody had three saves for Willamette.
