Bearcats Fall At Lewis and Clark

Lewis & Clark earned its first Northwest Conference victory of the 2005 season with a 30-17, 21-30, 30-22, 30-24 victory over the visiting Willamette Bearcats Saturday night at the Pamplin Sports Center. The Pioneers won the opening game 30-17. Lara Smith (sophomore, Vashon Island, Wash.) led the Pioneers with six kills in the game with an impressive .545 attack percentage. The Pioneers as a team hit .471 in game one.

Willamette controlled game two, with the Pioneers only being able to inch as close as 11-12 before the Bearcats edged the lead to 11 at the 26-15 mark. The Pioneers narrowed the margin to 28-21 but a block by Jessica McGraw and Jordyn Smith put the match away for the Bearcats, 30-21.

In game three, the Pioneers went on a seven-point run to jump out to a 21-11 lead. Kelsey Neussl (freshman, Kodiak, Alaska) took over game three with several dominant kills.

In game four, Audrey Dilling (senior, San Jose, Calif.) was the hero for the Pioneers in their 30-24 match-clinching victory. Dilling landed seven of her 16 kills in game four. A block by Sara Kettler (sophomore, Dana Point, Calif.) was the final point of the match.

For the Bearcats, Jessica McGraw led the attack with 14 kills. She also had 10 defensive digs. Kelly Lindstrom had ten kills in the match.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-6 (1-3 NWC). The Bearcats fall to 0-8 (0-4 NWC).
