Loggers Beat Bearcats in NWC Opener
SALEM, OR — Jamie Eggers had 15 kills and 22 digs, and Kayla Roof added 14 kills and 14 digs as the University of Puget Sound opened Northwest Conference play by defeating the Willamette University volleyball team in a four-game match Friday night at the Cone Field House.
UPS (4-1 overall, 3-1 NWC) and the Bearcats (0-5, 0-1 NWC) split the first two games with UPS taking the opener 30-36 and the Bearcats winning game two by a 30-24 count. After the break, the Loggers stormed to a 30-23 win in game three and came from behind to win the final game, 30-28.
In that final game, UPS took an early 10-5 lead behind three kills from Eggers. But a pair of acrobatic digs from Roni Schneider and Jordyn Smith helped the Bearcats come back to take a 26-23 lead. The Loggers responded to tie the game at 28 before a kill by Eggers and a Bearcat error gave the match to UPS.
Jessica McGraw led the Bearcats with 15 kills. Marci bird and Kelley Lindstrom each added 13. Jessica Drumm had 38 assists and Schnieder racked up 32 digs.
Jessica McPhee-Hayes had 38 assists to lead UPS.
Both teams play again Saturday as the Bearcats host Pacific Lutheran and the Loggers travel to Pacific University.
