Symmonds Picked for Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week; Moran Gets Nod for Football Special Teams

SALEM, OR — Runner Nick Symmonds (JR, Boise ID), has been named the Northwest Conference Male Athlete of the Week for cross-country. Symmonds was the top NWC finisher and second overall at the Sundodger Invitational last Saturday at the University of Washington.

Symmonds (pictured left), who spent the summer training and working in Mexico, saw all that hard work pay off as he finished the 8000-meter course in 24:49, good for second place overall. The Bearcat men finished first among 29 teams at the race.

Clint Moran (SO, Mission Viejo, CA), the Bearcat’s punter, was named the NWC’s Special Teams Player of the Week. Moran punted six times for a 35.2 yards per punt average.

Also earning Honorable Mention Athlete of the Week honors were:

Sarah Zerzan (SO, San Carlos, CA), who finished 12th overall in the Sundodger Invitational;

Jessica Lammers (JR, Concord CA) women’s soccer offensive player of the week, for her game—winning goal against Whitman from 40 yards on Sunday;

Kelsey Rogel (FR, Tacoma, WA), women’s defensive player of the week, for two solid efforts as Bearcat sweeper against Whitworth and Whitman;

Jessica McGraw (FR, Gaston, OR), Bearcat volleyball player who recorded 30 kills and 39 digs in two matches this past weekend and;

Daniel Park (SR, Mililani, HA), men’s soccer defensive player of the week, for heading away two point-blank shots in the game Sunday afternoon.
