Trevor Jones' OT Goal Leads Bearcats to Season Opening Win
HAYWARD, CA — Sophomore Trevor Jones scored 2 minutes into overtime, leading the Willamette University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay Friday afternoon in the Bearcats’ first game of the season.
Jones ended the evenly-played match when he converted a cross from junior transfer Erik Jacobsen. Both teams finished the game with 12 shots on goal. The Bearcats had a slim edge in corners, 6-5.
Senior Dane Meier went the whole way in goal for Willamette, collecting five saves for the shut-out.
Jones got off four shots in the game, each of them on goal. Sergio Valle had seven saves for CSEB.
The Bearcats play at Ausburg Saturday and UC Santa Cruz on Monday.
