SALEM, OR — Lewis and Clark had four hitters with double-digit kills and Tamara Moores recorded 54 assists as the Pioneers beat the Willamette University volleyball team, 3-1, in a Northwest conference match Friday night at the Cone Field House.
The Pioneers won their fourth NWC match — and the second in two nights — by game scores of 30-27, 27-30, 30-26, 30-26.
Game one was close throughout. Kelly Lindstrom’s kill brought the Bearcats within one at 16-15 before the Pioneers reeled off four straight points on a pair of kills from Audrey Dilling and a service ace by Moores. The Bearcats got within 27-24 on a kill by Mary Butler, but a service error and a kill by Jessica Morales put L&C up 29-25.
In game 2, the Pioneers opened up a 15-7 lead before the Bearcats came back, chipping away at the lead until Butler’s kill tied the game at 27-27. An attack error and kills by Jessica Durham and setter Jessica Drumm gave the Bearcats game two, 30-27.
After the break, the Pioneers again broke on top early, taking an 18-10 lead on a kill by Andrea Chase and an attack error by the Bearcats. Again Willamette clawed back, getting as close as 25-22 on a Butler kill. But a pair of kills by Dilling and two more from Nikki Smith, and a service ace from Liz Nguyen, gave the Pios a 29-24 lead and a win in game three.
The final game saw the Bearcats take the early lead and hang on until Sara Kettler’s kill gave L&C it’s first lead at 15-14. The game seesawed back and forth until a block by McGraw and Butler tied the game at 24-24. A kill by Smith, a service ace from Chase and two Bearcat errors gave the Pioneers a 28-24 lead and they closed the game out on a kill from Smith.
Along with Moores 54 assists and 21 digs, four Pioneers had double digit kills. Kettler had 16, Smith and Dilling each had 15 and Chase had 13. Leah Collins had 33 digs, Lauren Lessner has 29 and Morales had 28 to lead Lewis and Clark.
