Bearcats Fall To No. 23 Whitworth
SPOKANE, Wash . — Whitworth College bounced back from a second game loss to end any hopes of an upset and defeat visiting Willamette University 30-19, 28-30, 30-20, 30-16 in a Northwest Conference volleyball contest on Friday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
The 23rd-ranked Pirates are 12-2 overall and 8-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-10, 1-6.
Jessica McGraw led Willamette with 14 kills, while Kelly Lindstrom added 10 kills. Jessica Drum had 26 assists and Veronica Schneider dug 18 balls.
After the Pirates rolled to a first game victory (30-19), the Bearcats came back from a 21-18 deficit in the second game to win 30-28. But Whitworth regrouped, holding Willamette to negative hitting percentages in the next two games, to win 30-20 and 30-16.
Willamette will head to Walla Walla to play at Whitman College on Saturday night. The Pirates return to action on Tuesday when they play at NAIA Lewis-Clark State.
