Bearcats, Lutes Play to 1-1 Tie
SALEM, OR — The Willamette University women’s soccer team and Pacific Lutheran University played to a 1-1 tie in a Northwest Conference match Saturday afternoon at Sparks Field as the teams remained tied for second place in conference.
Willamette is now 6-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the NWC. PLU is 6-3-1 overall, 4-2-1 NWC.
After a scoreless first half, Christina McDuffie gave the Lutes a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute when she took a pass down the left sideline from Andrea Gabler and knocked home a 25-yard shot past Willamette goalie Kari Woody.
Bearcat forward Brenna Hindman (pictured above) tied the game in the 60th minute when she headed home a long pass from defender Sam Post over the head of PLU goalie Alyssa Blackburn.
PLU out-shot the Bearcats 18-16, but Willamette had the edge in corner kicks, 6-4.
Woody had seven saves for Willamette while Blackburn tallied five for PLU.
Willamette travels to Pacific Sunday for a noon match while PLU travels to Linfield.
