Bennion's Goal Gives Bearcats 1-0 Win Over George Fox
SALEM, OR — Reed Bennion scored off an assist from Mikey Rodrigues as the Willamette University men’s soccer team beat George Fox University, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference match Wednesday night under the lights at Sparks Field.
Bennion’s goal came in the 34th minute of the first half. Donald Bressler played the ball into the left box where Rodrigues crossed it to Bennion. Bennion (pictured left) fired the ball into the right corner past Bruin goalkeeper Kyle Putnam for the game’s only score.
George Fox out-shot the Bearcats for the game, 18-9. The Bruins had seven corner kicks to two for the Bearcats. But goalie Dane Meier collected four saves and made several key stops for the shutout victory. Daniel Park also headed away a shot in the mouth of the goal to preserve the shutout.
The Bearcats look to make it two straight when they play the Linfield Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Sparks Field.
