Hedrick's Late Goal Give UPS Win Over Willamette 1-0
SALEM, OR — Josh Hedrick scored off a scramble in front of the goal with less than nine minutes to play as the University of Puget Sound Loggers escaped with a 1-0 Northwest Conference win over the Willamette University men’s soccer team Sunday afternoon at Sparks Field.
The Bearcats had several chances to tie late in the game, including a shot that went just over the crossbar just before the final buzzer.
A closely played scoreless first half saw UPS have a slight 8-5 advantage in shots. UPS picked it up in the second half and ended with a 19-6 edge in total shots. Bearcat goalie Dane Meier made several point-blank saves, collecting eight stops. Brian Lawson had two saves for UPS.
The win raises the Logger’s record to 8-1-3 overall and 7-1-2 in the NWC. Willamette falls to 3-11 overall and 1-9 NWC.
The Bearcats play again Wednesday night when they host the George Fox Bruins in a 7:30 game at Sparks Field.
