Wildcats Beat Bearcats 5-0 Behind Popich's Three Goals
SALEM, OR — Kevin Popick scored three goals and Andy Sharp had a pair of assists as the Linfield College Wildcats defeated the Willamette University men’s soccer team 5-0 in a Northwest Conference match Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats are now 9-4-4 overall, 8-1-3 NWC. The Bearcats fall to 4-14 overall, 2-10 NWC.
Popich scored his first goal on a penalty shot in the 5th minute. Jason Wong made it 2-0 in the 21st minute with an assist to Greg Shuft.
Sharp and Popich teamed up for a goal in the 47th minute just after halftime. Popich got his hat trick at the 72 minute mark before Spencer Winter closed out the scoring in the 76th minute.
Linfield out-shot Willamette 18-8. Linfield goalkeepers Grant Williams and Taylor Fowles combined for three saves. Bearcat goalies Dane Meier and Reed Renfrow combined for seven saves.
Willamette plays again next Friday when they host Pacific. Game-time is 1:30 p.m.
