Woody Wins Defensive Player of the Week Honors; Butler, Zerzan and Batch Receive Honorable Mention
SALEM, OR — Bearcat goalie Kari Woody has been named the Northwest Conference women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week as she recorded two wins in the Bearcats swing through Western Washington last weekend.
Woody, fronted by a tenancious and young crew of defenders including Kelsey Rogel, Jennifer Standifer, Sam Post and April Kyrkos, recorded ten saves in blanking NWC rivals Whitman and Whitworth. The Bearcat defense has allowed only two goals in its last six games, including four shutouts.
Junior midfielder Susan Butler earned honorable mention Player of the Week for scoring the Bearcats only goal in a 1-0 win over Whitworth and converting a key enalty kick in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Whitman.
Also earning honorable mention honors this week were cross country athletes Sarah Zerzan and Ian Batch. Zerzan finished third in the Mike Hodges Invitational last Saturday and was the top DIII finishers in the race,
Batch finished ninth overall as he led the Bearcat men to a third place finish in the same event.
