Bearcats Blow Out Colorado, 82-45 Behind Olinger and Stuvland
PUEBLO, CO — John Olinger scored 12 of the Bearcats first 16 points and CJ Stuvland scored a game-high 19 points as the Willamette University basketball team opened up a 20-5 lead and coasted to an 82-45 win over Colorado College in the season opener for both teams at the Al Kaly Classic Friday night in Pueblo, Colorado.
Olinger scored the first seven points of the game before Colorado College got on the board. Then Stuvland took over, scoring five of his game-high 19 in the next few minutes as the Bearcats rolled to a 20-point lead. Ian Mansfield nailed a 3-pointer at the first half-buzzer as the Bearcats took a 39-17 lead into the locker room.
Stuvland scored his 19 points in 22 minutes, adding three rebounds and two assists. Olinger had 14 points and four boards. Drew Miller added 12 points and ten different Bearcats scored as Willamette shot a blazing 58% from the floor.
The Bearcats also enjoyed a 31-23 edge in rebounds, led by six from Mansfield and four from Jason Luchterhand. Luchterhand added three assists to lead Willamette.
Freshman David Fife scored nine points in his debut. Michael Smith, Rob Andrus and Brennan Garrelts each had five points in the balanced Bearcats attack.
Willamette plays again Saturday, facing host CSU-Pueblo in a 3 p.m. contest.
