Linfield Defeats Willamette 3-0
SALEM,OR — After squeaking through game one with a 31-29 win, the nationally-ranked Linfield Wildcats went on to defeat the Willamette University volleyball team, 31-29, 30-13, 30-25, in a Northwest Conference match Saturday night at the Cone Field House.
In the first game, the teams virtually traded points until Linfield jumped out to a 21-17 lead on three straight Bearcat attack errors. But Willamette battled back and tied the score at 29-29 on a Mary Butler kill. The Wildcats won the next two points and the game on a kill by Lauren Kriger and a service ace from Kelsey French.
In game 2, the Wildcats jumped out to a 15-6 lead and coasted home to an easy victory.
Game 3 was another close affair until the Wildcats opened up a
13-9 lead, again taking advantage of several Bearcat attack errors.
Linfield stretched the lead to 21-13 on four Katie Rilee serves and
could get no closer than five.
Krieger led Linfield with ten kills. Chelsey Gellatly had 26 assists and four Linfield playershad double digit digs.
For Willamette, Jessica McGraw had eight kills and Kelley Lindstrom added seven. Setter Jessica Drumm has 23 assists and NWC digs leader Roni Scheider collected 25 digs.
The Bearcats play again next weekend, hosting Whitworth and Whtiman at the Cone Field House Friday and Saturday.
