Swinn Takes Five First Place Finishes to Earn NWC Athlete of the Week Award
OAKLAND, CA — Eric Swinn won five events and Becca Fischer took home two first place finishes for the women as the Willamette University swim team competed at the Bay Area Invitational last weekend at Mills College.
Swinn won the 100 Back (52.29 - NCAA B), 100 Fly (53.91), 100 Free (49.46), 50 Back (28.60), and 50 Fly (24.38). He was second in the 200 Back (2:03.07). His time in the backstroke is an NCAA DIII national “B” qualifying time and puts him in solid position to earn a trip to nationals this year..
Fischer earned honorable mention NWC honors for her efforts in winning the 200 IM (2:21.46) and the100 breaststroke (1:11.71).
Other Bearcats earning first place at the meet included:
Shannon Gima in the 50 back (30.13),
Geoff Kruse in the 1650 freestyle (18:29.14), and
Kei Otawa in the 100 breast (1:04.02).
The mens 400 medley relay team also took first in a time of 3:55.99, as did the Bearcat men’s 200 free relay (1:33.43).
