Uhlmansiek and Post Score Second Half Goals to Lead Bearcats Over Boxers, 2-1
SALEM, OR — Laura Uhlmansiek had the game-winning goal and an assist, and defender Sam Post added a second half goal, as the Willamette University women’s soccer team defeated Pacific University 2-1 Friday afternoon at Sparks Field.
The Bearcats raise their record to 11-6-2 overall and 9-4-2 in the Northwest Conference, setting up a key season-ending game with Pacific Lutheran University Saturday night in Tacoma. The winner of that game will finish in second place in the NWC. Pacific falls to 7-11-1 overall, 4-10-1 NWC.
The Boxers took an early lead in the 12th minute when Lindsay Vondrachek scored off a corner kick from Kaleig Stubblefield. The score remained 1-0, Pacific, at halftime.
The Bearcats struck quickly in the second half when Post tied the game in the 46th minute. Uhlmansiek (pictured above) crossed the ball through the box where Post trapped it and fired it past Boxer goalie Shannon Tillman.
Uhlmansiek scored the game-winner later in the second half when her shot from 35 yards curled past Tillman for the game-winner. Brenna Hindman got credit for the assist.
The Bearcats out-shot Pacific 12-7, including 10-5 in the second half. Tillman had four saves for Pacific. Bearcat goalies Kari Woody had five saves for Willamette.
