Torrid 3-Point Shooting Lifts Willamette Over Whittier 81-61
WHITTIER, CA — John Olinger continued his torrid California
trip, pouring in 33 points as the Willamette University men’s
basketball team rolled to an 81-61 victory over Whittier College
he Bearcats (5-4) jumped out to a 13-6 lead, courtesy of CJ Stuvland’s three 3-pointers in the first five minutes and never trailed as they took a 43-22 lead at the break. Whittier (3-5) never got closer than 20 in the second half.
Stuvland and Olinger combined for all but 11 of the Bearcat’s first 43 points and the team was 9-11 from beyond the arc in the first half. The Bearcats finished the game 12-18 on 3-point shooting
Stuvland was 5-6 from deep in the first half, racking up 15 points and two assists. Olinger went for 17 in the first half on 6-11 shooting to go along with four rebounds.
For the game, Willamette shot a blazing 54% to 39% for Whittier. Stuvland finished with 17 points. David Fife added 13 on 6-7 shooting and had a team-high five assists. Drew Miller had eight points and four assists.
Willamette owned the boards, 36-32. led by nine from Jacob Baran. Ian Mansfield had five rebounds.
The Bearcats stay in California, playing a January 2nd game at Cal Tech before returning home to resume Northwest Conference play on January 6th.
