Willamette Falls to Master's 90-86 in 2 OT Despite Olinger's 32 and Stuvland's 26
Santa Clarita, CA — Isaiah Kotke hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left as The Master’s College defeated the Willamette University Bearcats men’s basketball team, 90-86, in two overtimes Thursday night in Santa Clarita, CA.
Willamette (4-4) was led by John Olinger’s 32 points and 26 from C.J. Stuvland.
It was a close game throughout, with the Bearcats taking a 32-28 lead into the break despite a 19-day lay-off. In the second half, led by Giovanni St. Amant (34 points, seven rebounds) and Ryan Read (27 points), Master’s opened up a 67-63 lead.
The Bearcats tied the game at 67-67 with 3:15 to play following lay-ups by Olinger and Brennan Garrelts. After a Master’s 3-pointer, Garrelts tied it again with his own 3-ball..
Drew Miller hit a pair of free throws to put the Bearcats up 72-20. Master’s tied it with Ryan Zamroz’s two free throws. Master’s had the ball with 29 seconds left, but St. Amant was stripped by Miller and Olinger’s 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out forcing overtime.
Miller sent the game into the second overtime with a driving lay-up with 3.6 seconds left in the first OT.
Both team had 44 rebounds. Willamette was led by Stuvland’s eight boards. Olinger added seven rebounds. Josh Erickson returned to action and had four assists in his 19 minutes. He did not play at all in the second half.
Jason Luchterhand scored eight points on 3-4 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Miller finished with seven points and six rebounds.
It was Master’s sixth straight win and sent the Bearcats to their second straight defeat. Willamette plays again Friday night at Whittier.
