Bearcats Lose on the Road to Pacific
Forest Grove, OR — DeeDee Arnall led Pacific with 17 points as the Boxers defeated the Willamette University women’s basketball team 73-56 in a Northwest Conference game Friday night.
With the Bearcats down 7-6 in the opening minutes, Pacific (5-8, 1-4 NWC) went on a 13-2 run to take a 20-8 lead with 8:22 left in the half. Willamette (5-8, 0-5 NWC) battled back and when Kari Woody hit a jumper with 57 seconds left in the half, the Bearcats were down 30-22.
In the second half, Willamette drew to within seven, 38-31, on a Sara Brooks 3-pointer with 15:47 to play. After Pacific pulled away, the Bearcats got back within nine at the 11:19 mark on Brittany Farrer’s lay-up. But that was the last time the Bearcats were within ten as the Boxers gradually pulled away for their first NWC win of the season.
Laura Payne led the Bearcats with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Farrer and Victoria Swigart each had eight points while Tracie Nygaard had six points and a team-high six rebounds.
Amy Pedersen had 15 points and five boards for Pacific. Kristina Stevens added six points and ten rebounds as the Boxers enjoyed a 51-38 edge on the boards.
The Bearcats out-shot Pacific 37.5 % to 36.4%, but turned the ball over 23 times to 17 for Pacific.
The Bearcats return home for a Saturday night contest against Linfield.
