Nick Symmonds Named Oregon Small College Male Athlete of the Year at Oregon Sports Awards Banquet; Alicia Andrews Honored As Finalist For Women's Award

BEAVERTON, OR — Nick Symmonds, the Bearcat's five-time national track champion, has been awarded the Ad Rutschman Small College Male Athlete of the Year Award at the Oregon Sports Awards Banquet Sunday night at the Tiger Woods Center at Nike.

Symmonds shared the award with Linfield quarterback Brett Elliot. Symmonds was named the NCAA Division III Male Track Athlete of the Year in 2005 after winning the 800 and 1500 meter runs at the national championships last spring.

Along with a total of five national championships in track, Symmonds also won the Northwest Conference Cross Country individual championship earlier this year.

Andrews, who won nine different NWC individual championships in her career, capped off last year by finishing second in the 800 meters at the national championships and leading the Bearcat 4 x 400 relay team to an eighth place finish. Pacific's Dee Dee Arnall won the award.

In other awards, Sprague High School's Joey Wong, the son of former Bearcat baseball coach Dave Wong, won the Johnny Carpenter Male Prep Athlete of the Year Award. Congratulations to all the winners.
