Olinger, Fife and Andrus Lead Bearcats to 71-33 Win Over Cal Tech
PASADENA, CA — John Olinger led three Bearcats in double figures with 14 as the Willamette University men’s basketball team defeated CAL Tech Monday night 71-33 to cap a three-game California road trip.
Olinger was 6-11 from the field and added a team-high five rebounds. Freshman David Fife had his best collegiate game to date, scoring 12 points, grabbing five rebounds and garnering five assists. Rob Andrus scored 11 points.
Seven other Bearcats also scored in the game, including nine from Ian Mansfield and eight points by Jason Luchterhand.
Willamette raced out to a 30-19 half-time lead, despite shooting only 40%. But the Bearcats turned up the heat after the break, shooting 53% and out-scoring Cal Tech 41-14 in the second half.
The Bearcats are now 6-4 overall (2-0 NWC) and return to Northwest Conference action Friday and Saturday night with games at Whitworth and Whitman. The games will be broadcast locally on KBZY radio and via the Internet for out-of-town fans.
