Second Half Surge Not Enough For Bearcats; Willamette Falls 80-58 to Whitworth

SPOKANE, WA — The Whitworth Pirates jumped out to a 15-2 lead and coasted to an 80-58 Northwest Conference win against the Willamette University women’s basketball team Friday night.

Laura Payne scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bearcats (5-6, 0-3 NWC). Tracie Nygaard added 11 poinits and five boards.

Whitworth was led by Danielle Wegman’s 18 points. Emily Hendrickson added 16 points and Holly Ridings added 14.

Willamette played a much better second half, shooting 43% and staying within range for much of the second half.

The Bearcats play again Saturday night at Whitman. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
