Bearcats Defeat George Fox, 7-2 in Women's Tennis

SALEM, OR — Willamette University’s women’s tennis team won the first four singles matches and all three doubles contests as the Bearcats won their first match of the season with a 7-2 win over George Fox University Friday night at the Courthouse Tennis Center.

Tiffany Kam, Alaine Anderson all had straight set wins. Kam defeated Courtney Ngai 6-1, 6-2. Anderson beat Kelsie Howell 6-0, 6-1 and Johnson bested Kelsie Dalke by the same score.

Becca Younger made it four straight for the Bearcats when she won a third set tiebreaker over Valerie Ring 6-3, 1-6 (10-3).

Laura Rogers got GFU on the board with a win over Meg Gilbert 7-6 (6), 6-4. At No. 6 singles, Rebecca Crinnion beat Christy Newell 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, Anderson and Younger teamed up for the win at No. 1, beating Ngai and Dalke 8-3. Gilbert and Johson took out Howe and Ring 8-2. Elsie Helvie and Kam won the No. 3 doubles match over Lindsay Haguer and Rogers 8-3.

Willamette wins its first match of the season to go to 1-3, 1-2 NWC. George Fox falls to 0-3, all NWC matches.

The Bearcats host Lewis & Clark Saturday night at the Courthouse. Matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
