Kassebaum Barely Misses Automatic Qualifying Time at Charles Bowles ClassicRoseanne Kassebaum was just .4 of a second off an automatic NCAA qualifying time as she won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.50, leading a parade of Bearcats to victories at the annual Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic at McCulloch Stadium Friday afternoon.
Kassebaum's time exceeds the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark.
Along with Kassebaum's win, Andrea May, Sarah Zerzan, Ashley Sharratt, Alana Pledger and Lindsey Patterson all took first place finishes.
For the men, Nick Symmonds, Brennan Garrelts, Lucas Nebert, Jarvis Tanquary and Jordan Arney won for the Bearcats.
May won the 400 meter run in a time of 58.50. Sarah Zerzan continued her outstanding spring as she won the 1500 in 4:14.88. Sharratt led a quartet of Bearcats through the 3000meter steeplechase, winning the race in 11:41.36.
In the field events, Pledger jumped 15-5 to win the high jump and Patterson soared 17-05.25 in the long jump.
The men also got victories in two jumping events. Arney took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11.5. Tanquary edged teammate Wesley Randall in the long jump. Tanquary went 20-05.00 to edge Randall by an 1-5 inches.
Lucas Nebert won the steeplechase in 9:38.12. Garrelts went 15.53 to take the 110 hurdles and Symmonds won the 400 in 48.15.
The Bearcats are off next weekend and host the Willamette Invite on April 7-8.
