Ueno, Ushikubo Grab Top Two Spots in Willamette InvitationalSALEM, OR - Willamette freshmen Whitney Ueno and May Ushikubo took the the top two spots after the opening nine holes of the Willamette Invitational played Sunday afternoon at Illahee Country Club.
Ueno fired a 40 to lead all players in the five-team event hosted by the Bearcats. Ushikubo was one shot behind at 41. The final 27 holes will be played on Monday.
Pacific leads the team competitions with a 179, led by Kelly Hartley and Kelly Curtan. Hartley is in fourth in the individual hunt with a 43. Curtan is one shot behind at 44.
Leslie Wheeler of Linfield is in third place, two strokes behind Ueno. Linfield's team is in second with a 189 and the Bearcats are in third place with a 194.
Lewis & Clark and PLU did not have enough players to count in the team standings.
