Ueno Wins Willamette Invite Women's Tourney; Pacific Captures Team Title

SALEM, OR - Whitney Ueno shot a 168 over two rounds to win the 2006 Willamette Invitational women's golf tournament played Sunday and Monday at Illahe Hill Country Club in Salem. Leslie Wheeler of Linfield finished second, three shots behind Ueno.

Only two teams had enough players to count for team scores. Pacific, behind
Kelly Curtan (3rd overall with 178) and Kelly Hartley (4th, 183) won the team title with a 755 combined score. Linfield finished second with 770.

Ueno had a one-shot lead over teammate May Ushikubo after the first nine holes played Sunday. But Ushikubo and Linfield's Leslie Wheeler finished the first round tied at 82, a shot ahead of Ueno.

While Ueno was shooting 85 in the second round, Wheeler shot an 89 to finish second with a 171. Ushikubo did not play the afternoon round. Angela Grossklaus, PLU's only competitor, finished fifth with 184. Lewis & Clark's Kelly Terrell shot 190 to finish sixth overall.
