Schruth Scores Winning Run in 8th As Bearcats Sweep Doubheader from PacificBearcats Drop Two To Pacific; Return To Forest Grove For Another Doubleheader Thursday NightFOREST GROVE, OR - The Willamette University softball team lost a pair of games to Pacific Friday night, dropping the Bearcats into fifth place in the Northwest Conference. Willamette lost game one 10-1 in five innings and fell 5-1 in the second game.
In game one, the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead when Brittney Tachara scored on one of Molly Barnes' three hits. But the Boxer came right back in the bottom of the third, scoring three run to take the lead. The Boxers tacked on seven more runs in the next two innings to end the game early and vault past the Bearcats in NWC standings.
Tachara took the loss for the Bearcats as Pacific's Amy Walters got the win, giving up six hits and one run in five innings of work.
The Boxers came right back in game two, posting five runs in the fourth inning on three RBI base hits and a pair of unearned runs. Willamette's only run came on Brittany Dearing's RBI single in the top of the seventh.
Blair Cuny (3-1) got her first start of the season, and her first loss, giving up three earned runs. Pacific's Andrea Bansen improved to 9-7 with the complete game four hitter.
The Bearcats don't have long to wait for a chance to play themselves back into NWC contention. They face the Boxers again Thursday night in Forest Grove before heading to Tacoma for weekend double-headers against UPS and PLU.
