Bearcats Roll Past Pacific, 8-1, In Women's Tennis
SALEM, OR - The Willamette University women's tennis team swept through doubles play, then won five of six singles matches as the Bearcats defeated Pacific University 8-1 Friday afternoon.Tiffany Kam, Hannah Johnson and Alaine Anderson each won singles and doubles matches as the Bearcats solidified their hold on the sixth and final post-season spot for the upcoming Northwest Conference championships.
Johnson and Kam teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match, defeating Lauran Sargent and Lisa Kjorstad, 8-0. Kam beat Sargant at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Johnson did the same to at No. 2 singles.
Anderson beat Erin Bayne at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and joined up with Christy Newell to win at No. 2 doubles over Bayne and Stephanie Tripp, 8-2.
Sarah Potts had the closest match of the day at No. 4 singles, but won a first-set tiebreaker and cruised to a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win over Kelly McGee.
Xochilth Franklin defeated Sami Richards at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Meg Gilbert and Elise Helvie won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, over Teresa Krebs and Richards. But Krebs came back to beat Gilbert at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4 to avert the Pacific shutout.
