Men's Tennis Holds On To Final NWC Post-Season Spot With 4-2 Win Over Pioneers

The Willamette University men's tennis team held to the final spot in the Northwest Conference championships as the Bearcats defeated Lewis & Clark 4-2 behind the singles victories of Eric MacMillan, Shaun Mihalik, Alex Sepenzis and Geoff Klein.

Willamette won two key three-set matches as they remain ahead of George Fox for sixth place in the conference. The top six teams travel to Yakmia next weekend for the NWC championships.

The teams did not play the doubles matches due to court conditions.

MacMillan defeated Satoshi Goda 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Mihalik won easily, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles over Jereon Hopster. Sepenzis won another three set match at No. 4 singles, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 over Yuichiro Yano and Geoff Klein clinched the victory with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Joey Braman.

The Bearcats improve to 5-13 on the season.
