Ueno Wins Northwest Conference Individual Title as Bearcats Finish Second in NWC Championships
SISTERS, OR - Whitney Ueno fired a second round 76 to come from two shots off the pace to win the individual title at the Northwest Conference golf championships at Aspen Lakes golf course. The Bearcats finished second in the overall team competition.
May Ushikubo earned all-Northwest Conferencee honors along with Ueno as she carded a second round 82 to finish in fifth place overall. Ashley Buchheit shot a pair of 99's in her two rounds to finish with 198 and Michelle Benrath shot a combined 199 as the Bearcats finished second in the tournament to Pacific.
Ueno was two shots behind Pacific's Molly Lindbloom aftet the first day of play on Saturday. But she shot the low round of the tournament on Sunday to win by five shots over Linfield's Leslie Wheeler (160), Lindbloom (162) and Puget Sound's Laura Stafford (163). Ushikbuo was next with 168.
As a team the Bearcats shot 720, finishing 34 sots behind Pacific. Puget Sound was third with a 731 combined team score. Linfield (737), Pacific Lutheran (741), Whitman (817) and Whitworth (878) rounded out the team scoring.
