Seven Bearcats Earn All-League Honors; Barnes Selected To First Team For Third Straight SeasonJunior Molly Barnes collected her third straight All-Northwest Conference first-team selection and six of her teammates earned all-conference honors in voting announced Tuesday by the NWC.
Barnes (Jr. Salem, OR) is joined on the All-NWC second team by shortstop Liz Gilgan (So, Sherwood, OR), outfielder LaShawna Holcomb (FR., Renton, WA), catcher Cari Schruth (JR, Roseburg OR), and utility/designated players Marissa Richards (FR, Newberg, OR) and Geneva Hale (SO, Shoreline, WA).
Outfielder Brittany Dearing (SR, Orangevale, CA) received honorable mention recognition from the NWC coaches.
Barnes, in earning her third selection to the first team, lead the Bearcats in hitting with a .400 average and a school record 32 RBI. Gilgan hit .385 and led the team in hits with 47. Holcomb was NWC Player of the Week earlier in the season and the freshman batted .353 while starting 34 Bearcat games.
Schruth earned her second All-NWC selection and led the Bearcats with 11 sacrifice hits. Richards, another freshman sensation, had a team-high 12 doubles while batting.347. She also started in all 37 games this season.
Hale set a single season team record for home runs, belting six in the season while driving in 31 runs and hitting .280.
Dearing, who led the nation in saves a year ago, switched to the outfield this season and hit her first collegiate home run in her final at-bat as a Bearcat.
