Kassebaum and Smith Move Up in National Rankings With Strong Races at UofO Twilight MeetEUGENE - Hurdlers Roseanne Kassebaum and Jordyn Smith continued to move up in national rankings in the 400 meters as the Bearcat duo finished second and third in the event at the University of Oregon Twilight meet Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Kassebaum passed the finish in 1:03.05, a mark that places her 6th in the nation, currently. Just behind was teammate Smith, who has made serious strides in the past several weeks, and is currently 10th in Division III at 1:03.34.
In the men's 5000, Ian Batch (FR., Boise, ID), Joshua Clough (FR., Auburn, WA) and Tristan Knutson-Lombardo (FR., Juneau, AK) entered the race with the simple hope of improving upon their season bests and gaining more momentum on the track. Batch, who has only been running for the past five weeks, ran a lifetime best of 15:12. Clough was just off his personal best by a second, running 15:24. Knutson Lombardo ran a personal best 15:26.
Another highlight was 2006 NWC 3000m Steeple Champion Maddie Coffman (FR., Boise, ID) as she improved her personal best by over a second, running the 7 - lap race in 11:39.
Other top finishers for the Bearcats included Mariah Hanson, who won the 400 meters in 57.89.2; Lindsay Patterson, who leaped 17-09 to finish first in the long jump; Brennan Garrelts's third place finish in the 110 hurdles in 15.33.4 and Garrelts's sixth place finish in the 400 hurdles (56.04.7).
