Rower Jessica John Named District 8 Academic All-AmericanSenior Jessica John of Beaverton, OR has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She graduated with a 3.95 GPA in mathematics earlier this month.
As a first team selection, John will advance to the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors.
John was also a finalist for the Bearcat's Jean Williams Award given annually to the best female athlete at Willamette.
John was the lead rower and captain on the Women's Varsity 8 and led the Bearcats to a second place finish in the Women's Open 8 race at the Windermere Cup Regatta. The Bearcat women's 8 was ranked among the top teams in the Northwest and as high as No. 15 in the country.
As a student, John received the Chester F. Luther Math Scholar in 2005 and 2005, and was Vice President of the Student Hall of Representatives in 2003. John also was named a Herbert C. Smith Scholar (2002), Association for Women in Math Scholar (2002) and Most Outstanding First Year Student (2003)
