Nine Bearcats Competing in NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships; Events Begin Tomorrow At Benedictine University

LISLE, IL - The women's 4 x 400 relay team will be the first Bearcats to take the track at the 2006 Division III National Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL as the meet begins Thursday afternoon with nine Bearcats competing.

Five-time national champion Nick Symmonds will begin defense of his 800 and 1500 meter titles as he runs in the prelims Thursday afternoon. Also competing Thursday afternoon will be Roseanne Kassebaum and Jordym Smith, running the women's 400 hurdles. The women's relay team, ranked 13th going into the race, will kick of the action in the trials scheduled for 6:45 pacific time.

That makes a busy day for Smith and Kassebaum as they will team with Andrea May and Lindsey Patterson to run the relay, as well as try to qualify for the finals in the hurdles.

Symmonds is the only athlete from the men's team competing. Eight Bearcat women - Alanna Pledger (high jump), Sophia Dentzel (javelin), Sarah Zerzan (1500), Mariah Hanson (400) Kassebaum and Smith (400 hurdles) and the Bearcats 4 x 400 relay team (Hanson, Smith, May and Patterson) - are all competing.
