Ueno Moves Into 14th Place After Three Rounds at NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL - Whitney Ueno moved into 14th place as she shot a 78 in the third round of the NCAA Division III women's golf championships at the Mission Inn Golf Course Thursday.

Ueno's round of five over par was the third lowest score of the day. Leader Charlotte Williams from Methodist College shot a three over 76. Three other players - Susan Choi of Wellesley, Heather Martin of Methodist College and Jessie Thompson of Wisconsin-Eau Claire all shot 77.

Ueno shot the second lowest round of the day on Wednesday to move up from 46th place after the first round. She jumped into contention to finish in the top ten with another strong round Thursday. Two players tied for tenth are three shots ahead of Ueno going into Friday's final round.

Ueno started on the tenth hole again on Thursday and quickly got to -1 when she birdied her second hole, the par 4 11th. But Ueno bogeyed the next hole and finished the front nine with a 41, four over par, after taking two more bogeys and a double on her front nine.

Ueno went to +5 as she made the turn with a bogey on No. 1, a par 5. But she rebounded with birdies on the par 3 second hole and the par 4 third hole. Bogeys at No. 5 and No. 9 left Ueno five strokes over par.

Methodist College leads the tournament by a whopping 54 shots. The four-person team is +52, well ahead of De Pauw University (106) and Gustavus Adolphus (+111).
