Symmonds Places Second at USA Outdoor Track ChampionshipsINDIANAPOLIS - Nick Symmonds '06 took second place today in the final of the 800 meter run at the USA Track and Field Championships. The only runner better than Nick was three-time USA Outdoor Champion Khadevis Robinson, who now owns the fastest time in the world in 2006 over 800 meters (1:44.13). Symmonds passed six other runners in the final 120 meters, crossing the line in 1:45.83.
After going through 200 meters in 8 th place, the seven time NCAA Division III champion eased into 7 th with four hundred meters to go with a 400 meter split of approximately 52.5 seconds. With 200 meters to go, it was a race for second place as Robinson had clearly established himself as the class of the field. As the runners rounded the turn onto the homestretch Symmonds was still in 6 th place. But, with the confidence and determination that he has demonstrated in the past, he began his charge to the finish line, picking one runner off after another until he crossed the line in second place.
