Bearcats Improve to 4-0-1, as Butler Scores for Willamette in 1-0 Win at Whitman
WALLA WALLA, WA - Willamette University improved to 4-0-1 on the season with a 1-0 victory over Whitman College on Saturday, Sept. 16, in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams. The loss dropped Whitman to 0-2.
Willamette's Susan Butler (Sr., MF, Boise, ID/Boise HS) scored the game's only goal at 59:18, assisted by Meghan Anderson (Fr., F, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS). Butler has scored at least one goal in four of Willamette's five games, missing out only in the Bearcats' 0-0 (2 OT) tie with 14th-ranked UC-Santa Cruz on Sept. 13. Butler is WU's leading scorer with 4 goals and 3 assists for 11 points.
Goalkeeper Kari Woody (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of Willamette registered eight saves, as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Willamette has allowed just one goal in five games so far this season. Whitman's goalie, Eric Goad, earned seven saves.
Whitman achieved an 18-15 advantage in total shots, with both teams placing eight shots on goal. The Bearcats registered eight corner kicks, while Whitman was held without a single corner kick during the match.
The Bearcats remain on the road to take on Whitworth College on Sunday, Sept. 17. Game time in Spokane, Wash., is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
