Bearcats Improve to 6-0-1, as Anderson Scores Two Goals in 3-0 Win at Lewis & Clark
PORTLAND, ORE. Meghan Anderson (Fr., F, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS) scored two goals and Jessica Lammers (Sr., MF, Concord, CA/Northgate HS) added one goal, as the Willamette University women’s soccer team defeated Lewis & Clark College, 3-0, on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Northwest Conference victory improved the Bearcats to 6-0-1 on the season, 3-0-0 in the NWC. Willamette is ranked #18 in the NCAA Division III Poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Lewis & Clark fell to 2-5-1, 0-3-1 in the NWC.
Willamette and the University of Puget Sound (5-0-1, 3-0-0 NWC) are tied for first place in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats will host UPS on Sunday, Sept. 24. Game time at Sparks Field is set for 12 p.m. (PDT). Puget Sound is ranked #3 in the NCAA Division III Poll.
Anderson gave WU an early lead in the win at Lewis & Clark, as she recorded the game’s first goal in the third minute. Willamette increased its lead to 2-0 when Lammers scored shortly before halftime in the 42nd minute. The goal by Lammers was assisted by Kelsey Priest (So., MF, Portland, OR/Beaverton HS). Anderson closed out the scoring with a goal in the 82nd minute after receiving a pass from Emily Gross (So., F, Medford, OR/North Medford HS).
Goalkeeper Kari Woody (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) registered the save for Willamette. She has achieved four solo shutouts this season to go with a shared shutout in which she played 45 minutes. The Bearcats have allowed just two goals in seven games.
Anderson, who has scored three goals and earned an assist in Willamette’s last two games, is tied with Susan Butler (Sr., MF, Boise, ID/Boise HS) for the team’s scoring lead. Both players have been credited with four goals and three assists for 11 points this season. Butler did not play against Lewis & Clark, as she missed her second consecutive game due to a knee injury.
