Ueno Ties for Second, as Bearcats Place Third at Pacific
BANKS, OR -- Willamette University sophomore women's golfer Whitney Ueno tied for second place with an 84, as the Bearcats finished in third place at the Pacific University 5-Way Match on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Quail Valley Golf Club. It was Willamette's first competition of the fall season.
Ueno, who took 10th place at last spring's NCAA Division III Championship, shot 43 on the front nine, but trailed co-leaders Jasmine Ching of Pacific and Leslie Wheeler of Linfield by two strokes. Ueno carded a 41 on the back nine to tie Wheeler for second place. Ching also shot 41 over the final nine holes to win by two strokes with an 82. Fourth place was a tie between Kelly Hartley of Pacific and Rachel Warrick of Linfield, both at 87.
Pacific won the team title with a score of 346, just four strokes in front of Linfield College, which concluded the event with a team score of 350. Willamette followed in third at 412, with George Fox University in fourth at 447. Lewis & Clark College did not field a complete team.
Ueno was joined by three other golfers on the Willamette team. Andrea Hand scored a 99, including 47 on the first half of the course. Michelle Benrath carded a 102. Tanya Schiller finished at 127.
