Willamette University to Host 32nd Annual Charles Bowles Invitational Cross Country Meet; Event will Feature more than 1,200 Athletes

SALEM, OR -- The Willamette University men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the 32nd Annual Charles Bowles Invitational cross country meet on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Bush’s Pasture Park in Salem, Ore. The event will feature four races, starting at 9:30 a.m. (PDT).

Willamette will be competing in the Men’s 8K Cardinal Race and the Women’s 5K Cardinal Race, which will include teams from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA. Ten nationally-ranked men’s teams and eight nationally-ranked women’s teams will participate in the Cardinal Races. Willamette is ranked #15 in the nation in NCAA Division III men’s cross country and is #13 in the nation in NCAA Division III women’s cross country. The men’s Cardinal Race will open the day at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by the women’s Cardinal Race at 10:10 a.m.

Other nationally-ranked men’s teams entered in the Cardinal Race are the University of Alaska-Anchorage (#25 in NCAA Division II), Albertson College (#18 in the NAIA), Azusa Pacific University (#8 in the NAIA), the University of British Columbia (#23 in the NAIA), Concordia University of California (#2 in the NAIA), Concordia University of Oregon (#5 in the NAIA), Lewis-Clark State College of Idaho (#9 in the NAIA), Western Washington University (#17 in NCAA Division II) and Westmont College (#14 in the NAIA).

In addition to the Bearcats, other nationally-ranked women’s teams scheduled to run in the Cardinal Race are the University of Alaska-Anchorage (#13 in NCAA Division II), Azusa Pacific University (#11 in the NAIA), the University of British Columbia (#5 in the NAIA), Concordia University of California (#4 in the NAIA), Point Loma Nazarene University (#15 in the NAIA), the University of Puget Sound (#26 in NCAA Division III) and Westmont College (#23 in the NAIA).

The final two events, the Men’s 8K Gold Race at 10:40 a.m. and the women’s 5K Gold Race at 11:20 a.m., will include NCAA Division I teams, plus junior college teams, club teams and unattached runners. The Gold Races are scheduled to include teams from Boise State University, the University of Hawaii, the University of Idaho, the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, the University of Portland, the University of Texas and the University of Washington. The men’s teams from Oregon (#17), Portland (#8) and Texas (#6) are nationally ranked. The women’s team from Washington (#10) is nationally ranked.
