Post Named NWC Defensive Player of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University women’s soccer player Samantha Post (So. D, Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) has been named the Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Bearcats to a 2-0 record in NWC play last week.
Post is one of the Bearcats’ defensive leaders on a team that has posted eight shutouts on the season and has given up just two goals in ten games. WU has recorded four consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal in 447 minutes, 16 seconds. The Bearcats are 9-0-1 overall, 6-0-0 in NWC action and ranked No. 5 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division III National Rankings.
Post played all 180 minutes in WU’s two wins over George Fox University and Linfield College. In the Bearcats’ 2-0 victory over George Fox on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Sparks Field, Post was part of a WU defense that limited the Bruins to five total shots and just one shot on goal.
The Bearcats followed Wednesday’s win with a 1-0 triumph over Linfield on Sunday, Oct. 1, also at Sparks Field. Willamette held the Wildcats to only five shots on goal. Post also scored the game’s only goal at 38:27, on a 6-yard header following a short corner kick.
