Softball at Northwest Christian Canceled
(SOFTBALL) SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's softball game at Northwest Christian College, scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, has been canceled due to the weather. The game will not be rescheduled. The Bearcats defeated the Beacons, 2-0, in the season opener on Feb. 23 at the WU Softball Field.
The Bearcats are still scheduled to play the Oregon Institute of Technology and Lewis & Clark College in doubleheaders on Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29, respectively. Willamette's doubleheader with Oregon Tech is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. (PDT), while the doubleheader with Lewis & Clark is slated for Thursday at 2 p.m. (PDT). The Northwest Conference games with Lewis & Clark were originally scheduled for Feb. 24, but were postponed due to the weather.
Willamette is 9-4 on the season, 3-3 in the NWC. The Bearcats are ranked #5 in NCAA Division III. Willamette has defeated #6 Chapman University and #8 Central College (Iowa) and #9 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, while losing to #1 University of St. Thomas once and to #4 Linfield College three times in four NWC games. WU has won eight of its last nine games.
Molly Barnes (Sr., 3B, Salem, OR/Sprague HS) leads the Bearcats with a .468 batting average. She is one of seven Willamette players batting over .300 for the season. Nikki Franchi (So., RHP, Los Gatos, CA/Saratoga HS) tops the pitching staff with a 2.23 earned run average and 45 strikeouts in 44 innings.
