Ueno Places Third at Pacific Invitational
(WOMEN'S GOLF) NORTH PLAINS, ORE. -- Willamette University sophomore golfer Whitney Ueno (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) finished in third place at the Pacific Invitational with a score of 167, after shooting an 86 over the tournament's final 18 holes on Sunday, March 25. Ueno trailed only medalist Leslie Wheeler, from Linfield College, who shot 161 (77-84) and runner-up Lindsay Aho, from Concordia University (Ore.), who shot 163 (82-81).
Concordia won the team title with a 36-hole score of 683. Willamette did not field a complete team.
The second round was held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on the Witch Hollow Golf Course. The first round, played on Saturday, March 24, was held at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore.
Ueno, who shot an 81 at Quail Valley, found things tougher on the challenging Witch Hollow course at Pumpkin Ridge. Even so, her 86 was bested by just three golfers and equalled by only one.
Wheeler, Aho and Ueno were followed by Miranda Silva of Concordia in fourth place at 168 (83-85). Emily Lau from the University of Puget Sound took fifth place at 171 (85-86).
Following Concordia in the team standings were Puget Sound at 717, Linfield College at 748, and Pacific University at 778. A total of 21 golfers participated in the event.
Willamette will return to action on March 31 at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Tacoma, Wash. Tee time is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
