Willamette Takes Fourth Place at Pacfic Invitational

(MEN'S GOLF) NORTH PLAINS, ORE. -- Willamette University shot 325 on the second day of the Pacific Invtitational on Sunday, March 25, to finish in fourth place with a score of 635 for the 36-hole event. The Bearcats began the day in fourth place, just six strokes behind tournament leader Concordia University (Ore.), but couldn't make up any ground on the top three teams.

Concordia recorded its second consecutive score of 302 to win the tournament with an overall score of 604. Pacific University finished five strokes back at 609, after shooting 303 on the second day. Third place went to the University of Puget Sound at 617. Willamette's fourth place finish was followed by Whitman College in fifth at 660 and by Lewis & Clark College in sixth at 694.

Jason Casey of Pacific Lutheran University won medalist honors with a two-day score of 148. His 71 on Sunday was the low round of the tournament. Casey was the only golfer competing from PLU.

Second place went to Craig Dehning of Concordia at 149 (76-73), while third place was earned by Tim Bartz of Puget Sound at 150 (75-75). Brad Backman, from Concordia, and Taryn Braseth, from Pacific, tied for fourth at 151 with identical 75-76 scores. Willamette's top finisher was Ben Bryant (So., Albany, OR/West Albany HS), who took 11th with a score of 154 (78-76).

Other leading scorers for Willamette were Grant Leslie (Fr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) at 157 (77-80), Martin Kraal (Sr., Springfield, OR/Springfield HS) at 161 (75-86) and Dave Bennet (Jr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS) at 165 (82-83). Also competing for the Bearcats were Tyler Robinson (Jr., Salem, OR/Umpqua Valley HS), who shot 167 (80-87), and Shane Adversalo (Fr., Honolulu, HI/The University Laboratory School), who shot 174 (87-87).

Willamette's next action in set for April 1-2 at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at The Classic Golf Club in Tacoma, Wash. Tee time for the first round is set for 11 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday, April 1.
