LAKEWOOD, WASH. -- Willamette University took fifth place at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic after shooting a final round score of 367 for a two-day total of 740 at the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club. The University of Puget Sound took first place with score of 678 (336-342).
Individual medalist honors went to Emily Lau of UPS, who shot 158 (78-80). Leslie Wheeler of Linfield was second at 160 (79-81). Whitney Ueno (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) from Willamette tied with Adrienne Parrish of UPS for third place at 165. Ueno shot 83-82, while Parrish carded 81-84.

Ueno was WU's top finisher, but Rachel Shahbaz (Fr., Portland, OR/St. Mary's Academy) was just four strokes behind her in sixth place with a two-day total of 169 (83-86). Other Willamette competitors were Michelle Benrath (Sr., Bend, OR/Bend HS) at 206 (101-105), Andrea Hand (So., Hillsboro, OR/Hillsboro HS) at 207 (106-101), Ashley Buchheit (Jr., Mt. Hand improved from the first round to the second round by five strokes, Schiller lowered her score by eight strokes and Buchheit improved by 13 strokes. The team's four lowest scores each day counted toward the team total.
The NWC Spring Classic is one of three events used to determine the NWC champion. Willamette won the NWC Fall Classic, with Ueno (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) earning medalist honors last October. The final championship event, which counts for 50% of the championship scoring, will be held April 14-15 at the Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters, Ore.
