NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University won two close matches on its way to sweeping the doubles competition, then won five of six matches in singles to defeat George Fox University, 8-1, on Friday, April 13. Willamette, which has won four of its last six matches, improved to 7-12 overall and to 6-9 in the Northwest Conference. George Fox dropped to 1-15 overall, 1-14 in the NWC.

The team victory clinched the sixth and final NWC Tournament berth for the Bearcats. WU holds a one-match lead over Lewis & Clark College (5-10 in the NWC) with one conference match remaining for each team.

Willamette has the tie-breaker in its favor by virtue of an aggregate score of 12-6 in head-to-head matches if WU and Lewis & Clark tie for the final playoff spot.
