WU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to Sponsor Third Annual Bearcat Day

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring the Third Annual Bearcat Day on Tuesday, April 24 to provide an opportunity for area youngsters to experience athletics. SAAC members have invited 150 students in the third, fourth and fifth grades at Bush Elementary School to participate in the two-hour field day at McCulloch Stadium in Bush's Pasture Park.

Activities will get underway at 12:30 p.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, and will continue until 2:30 p.m. The elementary school students will learn about a variety of sports and will be able to participate in a number of athletic activities. At the same time, Willamette University athletes will be able to teach the youngsters about their athletic endeavors. It's particularly important since the time allotted for physical education in many school systems has been declining. The SAAC, through it's partnership with Bush Elementary, hopes to make a difference.

The first two Bearcat Days were exciting and successful events. Willamette's student-athletes are certain that the third annual event will be just as interesting and beneficial -- for themselves, and, more importantly, for the elementary school students who attend.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is comprised of representatives from each of Willamette’s intercollegiate athletic teams. The SAAC works to provide community service opportunities such as Bearcat Day and also is the liaison between WU athletes, the Department of Athletics, Willamette University and regional and national governing organizations.
