Hall and Ralston Named National Scholar-Athletes by CRCA
SALEM, ORE. -- Two members of the Willamette University women’s rowing team have been named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) for the 2006-07 season. Willamette’s selections were rower Adrienne Hall (Sr., Orinda, CA/Miramonte HS) and coxswain Rebecca Ralston (Sr., Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial HS). Overall, a total of 81 student-athletes from 24 NCAA Division III colleges and universities received the academic award.
The CRCA chose the National Scholar-Athletes through several criteria. A rowing team member had to meet eligibility regulations, be at least a sophomore athletically, row a minimum of 75% of the spring races or race in a regional conference meet in order to qualify for the award. Also each student-athlete had to achieve at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA through the fall of 2006.
Hall majored in Anthropology at Willamette. She owned a 3.67 GPA through the fall 2006 semester. Ralston majored in Rhetoric and Media Studies and earned a 3.61 GPA in course work completed through the fall semester.
The Willamette women’s varsity eight achieve a #20 ranking in the cMax rankings for NCAA Division III released on May 15, 2007. WU also won the women’s varsity eight race at the Governor’s Cup Regatta on the Willamette River in Salem, Ore., on April 7, 2007. The Bearcats ranked third in the Northwest Region of NCAA Division III in the women’s varsity eights and were ranked first in the Northwest Region in the women’s varsity fours.
Willamette took second place in the Petite Final of the WV8 at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships and placed seventh at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC) Championships. WU also placed fifth in the Grand Final for women’s varsity fours at the WIRA Championships. WU’s fifth place finish was the top result for an NCAA Division III crew in the WV4 race.
