Bearcats Finish Third at NWC Five-Way #2 at Illahe Hills
SALEM, ORE. -- Robbie Beard (So., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS) tied for sixth place with a score of 79, and the Willamette University men's golf team finished third with a score of 352, at the Northwest Conference Five-Way #2, hosted by the Bearcats at Illahe Hills Country Club on Monday, Sept. 24. Taryn Braseth of Pacific University won medalist honors by shooting a 74, including a 35 on the front nine. A total of 30 golfers competed in the 18-hole event.
Linfield College won the team championship with a score of 307. The Wildcats finished nine strokes in front of Pacific, which took second place at 316. Willamette followed in third at 352, with Lewis & Clark College in fourth at 359 and George Fox University in fifth at 361.
Braseth's 35 was the best score recorded on the front nine. Tyler Nelson of Linfield registered a 35 over the final nine holes to record the low score on the back nine.
Nelson tied teammate Nick Pagenkopf for second place with an overall score of 76. Fourth place was earned by Kyle Henderson of Linfield with a 77. Joel Rychard, also from Linfield, finished fifth with a 78. Beard and Max Bonk of Pacific tied for sixth place at 79.
Beard was joined by Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School), Kevin Burfeind (Fr., Kalispell, MT) and Taylor Buchheit (Fr., Silverton, OR) in contributing to Willamette's team score. Adversalo shot an 80 and tied for eighth place overall. Burfeind finished with a 96 and Buchheit shot 97.
The Bearcats will return to the links on Monday, Oct. 1 at the NWC Five-Way #3, which will be held at the Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Ore. Tee time is slated for 10 a.m. (PDT).
