Eastern Oregon Rallies from Two-Games Down to Edge Bearcats at WU Volleyball Tournament
SALEM, ORE. -- Eastern Oregon University overcame a two-game deficit to defeat Willamette University, 3-2, in the WU Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Mountaineers lost the first two games, 30-23 and 34-32, but rallied for wins of 30-21, 30-19 and 15-10 to take the match.
WU led 7-2 in Game #5, but Eastern Oregon scored the next six points to start a 10-1 run. The Bearcats, who trailed 12-8, recorded the next two points, before EOU countered with three straight points to conclude the match.
The Mountaineers improved to 1-3 on the season. Willamette fell to 0-3. The Bearcats will take on George Fox University today at 6 p.m. (PDT) in the final match of the tournament.
Willamette's top attackers were Jessica Durham (Jr., OH, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) with 15 kills and Kelley Lindstrom (Jr., OH, Banks, OR/Banks HS) with 14 kills. Libero Christine Dion (So., San Jose, CA/Univ. of Portland) provided a match-high 23 digs, while Edyth Lee-Barnes (So., OH, Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) was credited with 16 digs.
WU's setter, Brittany Ashby (Jr., Federal Way, WA/Decator HS) registered 52 assists. She also supplied nine kills and no errors on 17 attacks for a .529 hitting percentage.
Grace DeBoodt led Eastern Oregon with 23 kills. She also provided 16 digs. The Mountaineers received a team-high 22 digs from libero Kiley Cobb, while Haley McEnroe contributed 16 kills. Alissa Clinton earned 56 assists, Megan Weil added 19 digs and Danielle Kelly registered eight kills with no attacking errors (.471 pct.).
